  • Burning Bright

Nick Petrie, Stephen Mendel, Penguin Audio

Audible Audiobook (Penguin Audio, Jan. 10, 2017)
In the new novel featuring war veteran Peter Ash, "an action hero of the likes of Jack Reacher or Jason Bourne" (Lincoln Journal-Star), Ash has a woman's life in his hands - and her mystery is stranger than he could ever imagine. War veteran Peter Ash sought peace and quiet among the towering redwoods of Northern California, but the trip isn't quite the balm he'd hoped for. The dense forest and close fog cause his claustrophobia to buzz and spark, and then he stumbles upon a grizzly long thought to have vanished from this part of the country. In a fight of man against bear, Peter doesn't favor his odds, so he makes a strategic retreat up a nearby sapling. There he finds something strange: a climbing rope affixed to a distant branch above. It leads to another and another, up through the giant tree canopy, ending at a hanging platform. On the platform is a woman on the run. From below them come the sounds of men and gunshots. Just days ago investigative journalist June Cassidy escaped a kidnapping by the men who are still on her trail. She suspects they're after something belonging to her mother, a prominent software designer who recently died in an accident. June needs time to figure out what's going on and help from someone with Peter's particular set of skills. Only one step ahead of their pursuers, Peter and June must race to unravel this peculiar mystery. What they find leads them to an eccentric recluse, a shadowy pseudomilitary organization, and an extraordinary tool that may change the modern world forever.

  • Burning Daylight

Jack London, Tim Behrens, Books in Motion

Audiobook (Books in Motion, June 6, 2011)
Burning Daylight begins as many of London's finest works begin: with the depiction of a man blessed with physical prowess and keen perception who takes on the natural forces of the 19th-century Yukon. Supreme gold miner, risk-all gambler, and unbeatable fighter, Burning Daylight is his name. Daylight moves from the Yukon to San Francisco, and plays "the bigger game of finance and wealth", until he is reminded of something he lost, something pure and good. And with this discovery, London turns his standard format into the finest love story he ever crafted and Burning Daylight becomes much more than a simple adventure.

    Jack London

eBook (Moorside Press, June 20, 2013)
This ebook includes a biographical introduction, a short, critical analysis of London's work within the historical context and a brief introduction to this work.Published in 1910 by McMillan, Burning Daylight tells the story of the eponymous character, a successful prospector, and his adventures in the Klondike. It's thought that Burning Daylight – a nickname – was based on a real-life character called 'Borax' Smith, an entrepreneur from Oakland, California. It's also thought that the character was a manifestation of London, or at least the man he'd most like to be. The book was a best seller in the year of its release and reportedly the largest selling book during London's life time.
